Bear Glacier Water TaxiGetting to Bear Glacier. We have 2 options available; water taxi boat or helicopter. The helicopter option is the most flexible on departure times and is a scenic flight from Seward but also the more costly option. The water taxi shuttle option departure times are timed to arrive at Bear Glacier at high tides, the only time we can get into the lake, and departure times are not flexible. The water taxi option is the less costly option to get to Bear Glacier.

Location
Black Bear at Bear GlacierBear Glacier Wilderness Retreat is located right on the border of Kenai Fjords National Park on a remote island in a large lake separated from the Pacific Ocean by a narrow glacier moraine and is 30 roadless miles south of Seward.

Wildlife in the area includes black bears, mountain goats, coyotes, wolverines and harbor seals that come into the lake seeking protection from the Orca whales that cruise just outside along the beach. For birders, this area is the nesting area for a large variety of birds.
