Visit Alaska's world famous Katmai National Park, land of bears and volcanos. Along the Savonoski River there's a large concentration of brown bears. The remoteness that is only accessible by canoe or kayak makes the Savonoski River one of the least visited bear viewing areas in Katmai.
In camp, wonderful family style meals are prepared by your guides.
ITINERARY **
Arrival - Fly into Anchorage International Airport. Plan to arrive at least one day before your trip departure date. Anchorage offers many fine hotel and bed and breakfast lodging options. We can provide you a list of recommended lodging options or include hotel lodging in Anchorage with your tour package. If you would like us to include hotel lodging in Anchorage with your tour package just let us know.
Day 1 - We fly to King Salmon by commercial airliner. From King Salmon we fly by charter bush float plane to Lake Grosvenor. We set up camp then venture out by boat and on foot to explore this region. Fishermen in our group will want to cast a line and try to land some of the area's feisty rainbow trout and pike.
Day 2 - Today we follow the Lake Grosvenor shoreline on are way to the outlet, start of the Savonoski River. Set up camp
Day 3 - Bear viewing: The water turns to milky gray as we leave the Grosvenor Lake and paddle the braided waters of the Savonoski River. We may catch a glimpse of Tundra swans nesting in the area. The pace of the river quickens as we enter prime brown bear habitat on the Savonoski.
Day 4 - Naknek lake (Iliuk Arm): The rushing waters of the Savonoski carry us into Iliuk Arm as we make our way for a 20-mile paddle to Brooks Camp. We'll keep watch along the shoreline looking for bears that frequent the area.
Day 5 - Naknek Lake: Camp near Margot Creek to view and photograph bears.
Day 6 - Today continue following the Naknek Lake shoreline looking for bears.
Day 7 - Brooks Camp: We'll view the world famous brown bears of Katmai as they fish for salmon leaping up Brooks Falls. This is the site of the Alaskan brown bear images seen around the world on magazine covers and in nature films. We'll spend most of a day looking for some of the the 40 to 60 bears that congregate in the Brooks Camp area. This an incredible opportunity to photograph bears in close view as they clinch salmon in their paws and gnash their mighty teeth into their prey.
Day 8 - We'll have time in the morning for one last look at the bears before boarding the float plane for flight back to King Salmon and then back to Anchorage. |

At the time of reservation we invoice you at the highest tier price until final payment is due. If the price drops due to an increase in the group size before your trip departs, you will be refunded the difference. Note that paying guests does not include guides or any guests already getting a discount (example, combining trips may earn you a discount).
