Kongakut River - 10 day Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Rafting Safari. Explore Alaska's remote Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) by raft on the "river of caribou". Our trip coincides with the annual migration of the 130,000-strong Porcupine caribou herd and passes through some of the world's most pristine wilderness.
Lake Creek - 7 day Whitewater Rafting and Fishing Adventure. Our favorite fly-in wilderness adventure river, great combination exciting whitewater and great Alaska fishing. Lake Creek offers almost continuous Class II/III whitewater with a few Class IV rapids, five species of salmon, rainbow trout and arctic grayling.
Chulitna River - 4 day Denali Raft Adventure. An excellent family adventure and sampling of Alaska's best wilderness and geography at a casual pace. We travel through Denali State Park, upper Susitna Valley and take out near Trapper Creek, a historic gold mining town. |

 Seward is a small maritime time community with hotels, lodging, and bed and breakfast options that are centrally located and within walking distance to the downtown shopping area, the small boat harbor, and the Alaska SeaLife Center. For independent travelers with a rental car there are close by lodges, hotels, B&B's and cabins that offer wooded wilderness sittings or beachfront views.

Seward Birch Tree Cottage
 Newly furnished, Backcountry Safaris' Birch Tree Cottage is a cute one bedroom downtown Seward cottage. Amenities include a double size bed and a Click Clack Sofa bed in the front room. The kitchenette features a stove and refrigerator and is stocked with tableware, utensils, pots, pans, coffee pot, and a microwave oven. Complimentary arrival and departure shuttle to and from the Seward Train Depot and the Seward Cruise ship docks.
Seward's Breeze Inn
 One of our first Seward hotel choices, reasonable rates and convenient location to the small boat harbor where all the Kenai Fjords National Park whale watching glacier cruises depart from. A new Seward hotel opened in 2005. A waterfront hotel overlooking the Small Boat Harbor. Ocean side rooms offers a view of the harbor and Resurrection Bay. 82 rooms with 2 queen beds. Also features a indoor swimming pool.
Seward Windsong Lodge
Located about 4 miles from downtown Seward, nestled in a spectacular glacier river valley, the Seward Windsong Lodge is exceptional Seward Alaska lodging. Guest rooms for the Seward Windsong Lodge are spread out in a wooded setting, surrounded by spruce trees and wildflowers. Free shuttle to all major Seward sights. Also home to Resurrection Roadhouse a popular Seward restaurant.
Alaska Saltwater Lodge and Dairy Hill B&B
Perhaps the best and most popular B&B in Seward. Early advance reservation are necessary for this popular B&B. Dairy Hill is located on the hill above the boat harbor. Alaska Saltwater Lodge is at Lowell Point and is a spectacular beachfront lodge.

Ray's Waterfront - Located in the small boat harbor area 1316 4th Ave. For Alaska sea food Ray's is at the top of the list for most locals but it is also on the high-end for cost.
Bakery at the Harbor - Located in the small boat harbor area 1210 4th Avenue. The Bakery is across street from the small boat harbor and Park Service Visitor's Center. A favorite and frequented by locals. Open for breakfast and lunch. Fresh baked pastries, cinnamon rolls and bread. Breakfast Buffet, Other Breakfast Choices Sourdough Waffles, Breakfast Burrito, Oatmeal, Quiche. Deli-Style or regular sandwich, hamburgers, soups, and if you're heading out for a fishing charter box lunches to go are available. Coffee and Espresso. They open early 5:00 AM, in time for you to grab a cup of coffee and a pastry before heading out on that fishing charter.
Smoke Shack - Port & 4th Ave at the Train Wreck in an old train car northwest end of the small boat harbor. Considered by some to be one of the better places in Seward for breakfast and lunch. BBQ, deli, hamburgers, soups. and even some vegetarian options. Limited inside seating and with extra covered seating outside.
Resurrect Art Coffee House - Located at 320 3rd Avenue in the downtown area. If you want to set down for a cup of coffee and meet the locals this is the place to go. Also unique handcrafted gifts and art pieces by local artisans. Baristas serve up your favorite espresso, chai tea, hot cocoa, herbal tea, and Italian sodas.
Apollo Restaurant - Located at 229 4th Avenue in the downtown area. Serving Greek, Italian, pizzas, steaks and Alaska seafood. Our favorite and reasonably priced.
Railway Cantina - Located in the small boat harbor area 1401 4th Avenue, across street from the small boat harbor. Mexican burritos, tacos and quesadilla. The halibut burritos are a popular choice here as well as a variety of salsas to choose from. Also good options for vegetarians.
Subway - 305 South Harbor Street, between 3rd Avenue (Seward Hwy) and 4th in the small boat harbor area. The only fast food franchise in the Seward area.
Red's Burger - Corner of 3rd (Seward Hwy) and Van Burren St. Located in a old school bus converted to a food stand and just south of the small boat harbor. This is where the locals go for hamburgers and fries. Covered outside seating but when you have a hamburger this good who cares, just put your jacket on and sit down to a great hamburger.
Christo's Palace - Located at 133 4th Avenue in the downtown area. Dining and cocktails. Alaska seafood, Steaks, Mexican, Pasta, and pizzas. A variety of menu choices makes Christo's a popular choice.
Peking Restaurant - Located at 338 4th Avenue in the downtown area. Chinese food, both lunch and dinner buffet.
Sea Bean Internet Cafe - Located at 225 4th Avenue in the downtown area. Free Wi-Fi. Espresso, specialty coffee, large selection of loose leaf tea, smoothies and ice cream.
Exit Glacier Salmon Bake Restaurant - Located at mile 1/4 Exit Glacier Road. A little ways out of the way if you're walking. Another locals' favorite. Great low key authentic Alaskan restaurant & pub in a quiet wooded setting. Good food and pitchers of Alaskan beers, from the Alaskan Brewing Company, award winning Moose's Tooth IPA, Glacier Brewhouse. Fresh Alaskan salmon, halibut and red snapper as well as steaks, burgers and a variety of other seafood delights are on the menu.
Le Barn Appetit Inn and Creperie - Located at mile about 1/8 Exit Glacier Road. A little out of the way and often forgotten except by those that frequent the area. Crepes, Crepes and more Crepes. Breakfast and dinner crepes. These crepes are huge and can easily feed 2 people except for the really big eater. The Eclairs are really special. Le Barn ranks high on our list.

Did You Know?
City Of Anchorage. In 1915 President Woodrow Wilson authorized funds for the construction of the Alaska Railroad. Ship Creek Landing was selected as the headquarters of this effort. A Tent City sprang up in the wilderness at the mouth of Ship Creek, and soon swelled to a population of over 2,000. On July 9, 1915, the Anchorage townsite auction was held, and over 600 lots were sold. Although the area had been known by various names, in this same year the U.S. Post Office Department formalized the use of the name Anchorage, and despite some protests the name stuck. |
