We offer Alaska raft trips that offer scenic views, wildlife viewing, fishing, and whitewater.
Custom group Alaska rafting adventures are available on request. If have interested in something special or participating in an exploratory expedition, please contact us with your ideals or to see what plans are being made.
Kongakut River - 10 day Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Rafting Safari. Explore Alaska's remote Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) by raft on the "river of caribou". Our trip coincides with the annual migration of the 130,000-strong Porcupine caribou herd and passes through some of the world's most pristine wilderness.
Lake Creek - 7 day Whitewater Rafting and Fishing Adventure. Our favorite fly-in wilderness adventure river, great combination exciting whitewater and great Alaska fishing. Lake Creek offers almost continuous Class II/III whitewater with a few Class IV rapids, five species of salmon, rainbow trout and arctic grayling.
Chulitna River - 4 day Denali Raft Adventure. An excellent family adventure and sampling of Alaska's best wilderness and geography at a casual pace. We travel through Denali State Park, upper Susitna Valley and take out near Trapper Creek, a historic gold mining town. |

Seward, Alaska Resurrection Bay
Kayakers Cove Self Guided and Guided Sea Kayaking
Kayakers Cove is a favorite affordable sea kayaking destination with local Alaska sea kayakers and out-of-state adventure travelers. Kayakers Cove is owned by our Seward friends and long time Seward residents Mike and Raylene O’Connor.
Lodging
Kayakers Cove offers an alternative to conventional Seward lodging. Kayakers Cove is a rustic wilderness lodge offering hostel style lodging, located in Resurrection Bay 12 water miles from the town of Seward. Backcountry Safaris can provide water taxi transportation to Kayakers Cove or you can even kayak to Kayakers Cove from Seward.
Lodging at Kayakers Cove is affordable and rustic and offers two private cabins, or shared hostel-style accommodation in the main lodge.
- The private cabins include double beds on the main floor, and two additional sleeping areas in the lofts. Kayakers Cove provides bedding on the double beds, but in the loft you’ll need to use your own sleeping bag or rent bedding from Kayakers Cove. Cabin rental includes the use of the kitchen facilities, dishes and utensils, which are available in the main lodge. Or you can bring your own stove and cooking gear.
- The shared hostel-style accommodation is in the main lodge, in the loft area. You’ll need to bring your own sleeping bag/bedding, or you can rent bedding from Kayakers Cove. This is dorm-style accommodation and includes the use of the kitchen, dishes and utensils.
Non-guided and guided sea kayaking options are available.
- Non-guided. Bring your food, drinks, clothing, and a sleeping bag. Bedding is available to rent at Kayakers Cove. If you need a sea kayak, Kayakers Cove has sea kayaks to rent or you can rent sea kayaks and dry suits from us.
- Guided, one of Backcountry Safaris neutralist sea kayaking guides can accompany you to Kayakers Cove. Our guide can give you kayaking instruction. If you have never sea kayaked before, it's always safer to paddle with an experienced kayaker. Backcountry Safaris' guides knows the local natural history, flora and fauna, the wildlife, and know all the nooks and crannies to explore near Kayakers Cover. Guided options, Guide rental, this is the most affordable option. Our guide shows you the way and you bring your own food and rent kayaks if needed. Or choose a fully outfitted guided trip where we bring all the group gear, kayaks, and food. You just show up with your clothing.
Also available is a complete custom tour package that includes round trip transportation from Anchorage and overnight lodging in in Seward. Call for more information.
Alternative Option
Bear Glacier lodging, with sea kayaking near glaciers and icebergs
For a more remote sea kayaking and hostel style lodging experience, including paddling near a glacier and icebergs, Bear Glacier Wilderness Retreat would be an affordable alternative.
The perfect cup of coffee in Seward
When in Seward our favorite coffee stop is "Resurrect Art Coffee House" also owned by our friends Mike and Raylene who own Kayakers Cove. Resurrect Art Coffee House features coffee, Italian Sodas, Pastries, unique gift items and an art gallery crafted by local (mainly Seward) artisans.
