We offer Alaska raft trips that offer scenic views, wildlife viewing, fishing, and whitewater.
Custom group Alaska rafting adventures are available on request. If have interested in something special or participating in an exploratory expedition, please contact us with your ideals or to see what plans are being made.
Kongakut River - 10 day Arctic National Wildlife Refuge Rafting Safari. Explore Alaska's remote Arctic National Wildlife Refuge (ANWR) by raft on the "river of caribou". Our trip coincides with the annual migration of the 130,000-strong Porcupine caribou herd and passes through some of the world's most pristine wilderness.
Lake Creek - 7 day Whitewater Rafting and Fishing Adventure. Our favorite fly-in wilderness adventure river, great combination exciting whitewater and great Alaska fishing. Lake Creek offers almost continuous Class II/III whitewater with a few Class IV rapids, five species of salmon, rainbow trout and arctic grayling.
Chulitna River - 4 day Denali Raft Adventure. An excellent family adventure and sampling of Alaska's best wilderness and geography at a casual pace. We travel through Denali State Park, upper Susitna Valley and take out near Trapper Creek, a historic gold mining town. |

Aialik Bay (pronounced eye-Al-ick) - Kenai Fjords National Park
3 to 7 Day Kenai Fjords Aialik Bay Sea Kayaking Camping Trips Departing From Seward
These sea kayaking camping trips are completely outfitted and guided as custom private trips. Rates are based on the number of people on the trip. If you would like to save on the cost, we can try to combine groups if your group is okay with that.
Also see our most popular Aialik Bay trip option, 7 days departing from Anchorage. This trip has scheduled departure dates. This is a complete package that includes the transportation from Anchorage to Seward and the pre- and post-trip overnight lodging in Seward.
Departing from Seward, our Aialik Bay Alaska sea kayaking camping adventures includes a small boat wildlife cruise to Aialik Bay a sea kayaking paradise in Kenai Fjords National Park. Kenai Fjords is famous for its abundance of wildlife and tidewater glaciers. Kenai Fjords National Park is one of Alaska's hotspots for Alaska wildlife viewing. We often see pods of killer whales, humpback whales, harbor seals, sea otters, black bears, mountain goats, bald eagles, the endangered Steller sea lion, and a variety of marine birds, including puffins. Visit our Aialik Bay Photo Album.
The more time you have the better experience you will have. Getting to Aialik Bay requires more than a 1/2 days travel time. A 3 day Aialik trip gives you one full days paddling time. 4 days for a noticeable better trip and 5 days you will have time to see all 3 glacier in Aialik Bay. 6 and 7 day trips gives you time to start farther out in the bay and see areas that are seldom visited for the ultimate Aialik Bay experience.
If you are not committed to touring Aialik Bay, for a 3 day or shorter trip we highly recommend our Bear Glacier trip. Our Bear Glacier Wilderness Retreat offers a much better Alaska sea kayaking experience for shorter trips and offers the comfort of our base camp there. Aialik Bay has the advantage of potentially viewing more wildlife. But on 3 day or shorter trips, the added travel time getting to and from the bay does not leave as much paddling time to really appreciate Aialik Bay. The relative closeness of Bear Glacier offers you ample paddling time on a shorter trip and the scenic value and paddling around the giant icebergs is truly an amazing experience.
Combine our Aialik Bay sea kayaking adventure with our bear viewing or our Denali National Park adventure for a terrific Alaska Vacation.
Compare The Differences
You'll see why Backcountry Safaris is your best choice.
- Dry Suit - We supply dry suits to keep you warm, dry, and help protect you from hypothermia in Alaska's cold waters. Other Seward sea kayaking outfitters provide (or rent at extra cost) rain gear and rubber boots that offer little protection. Another advantage to dry suits is that if the weather turns wet, they add warmth and a comfort level you would not think possible in this maritime environment.
- Single Kayaks - We provide an option to paddle your own single-person kayak. Most other outfitters use only two-person kayaks. Please inquire.

SAMPLE ITINERARY, 5 DAYS**
Arrival - Plan to arrive in Seward at least one day before your kayak trip departure date. Meet with Backcountry Safaris to get outfitted with a dry suit, rain gear, rubber boots, and dry bags.
Complete tour package that includes the transportation to and from Seward, the pre- and post-trip lodging in Seward is also available.
A 3 day trip would include day 1, a visit to Aialik Glacier and day 5 in the below sample itinerary.
Day 1 - Our guides will pick you at one of the local hotels at 7:00 a.m. or if you choose you can meet us at the small boat ramp. With team effort we will load our sea kayaks and gear onto an ocean charter vessel for a 4-hour marine wildlife and glacier cruise to our first camp. Along the way, we round Cape Aialik, pass Caines Head, Bear Glacier, and a Stellar sea lion haulout. We'll set up camp, then devote the rest of the day to sea kayak safety and instruction as we paddle around our new environment.
Day 2 - Today we paddle up to the face of Aialik Glacier and take a long lunch break to watch the glacier calve and watch the seals playing on the icebergs. After lunch we head for Pedersen Lagoon, which is used by harbor seals to escape from orca whales. A beautiful glacier empties into an upper lagoon filling it with massive icebergs. This area is teeming with wildlife including bears, eagles, waterfowl, shorebirds, sea otters and harbor seals. Wolves and coyotes have also been reported in this area.
Day 3 - Today we head out toward the open ocean and paddle around Holgate Head and back into Holgate Arm, setting camp up on Holgate Beach.
Day 4 - We will paddle our way to the end of the fjord to visit the Holgate Glacier, the last of the three tidewater glaciers in Aialik Bay. We'll sea kayak through ice and "bergy bits" in front of the active glacier and watch it calve into the ocean with a thunderous roar.
Day 5 - We break camp early morning and if you choose you can go for a short paddle near camp while waiting for our charter boat to arrive for our ride back to Seward. Our shuttle driver will meet us at the dock and take you to back to your hotel.
